Gaye Martin Harris was born New Years Day 1944 in Long Beach, California. Following WWII, she returned to Sweetwater, Texas where her family's ranch became a hub of horse riding, playing in creeks, Jeep driving and general adventure for friends and cousins. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1962, the University of Texas in 1966 and received her teaching certificate from SMU soon after. She married her high school sweetheart and fulfilled a dream of having two boys. She was a loyal friend, gourmet cook, connoisseur of style, French antiques, avid reader and flower designer whose arrangements won several awards. A lifelong passion of sewing costumes, bedding, draperies and playing piano were also among her creative skills. She volunteered at her children's schools from PTA to cafeteria, as well as being a Highland Park High School football captain's mom for each of her boys. Her memberships included Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Dallas Woman's Club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, and Dallas Theater Center Woman's Guild. She had an eagerness to help family and friends and a twinkle in her eyes; which will be missed.
Nothing brought her more joy than taking care of her family. She is survived by: husband David Andrews Harris, sons Todd Robert Harris and his wife Laran Harris of Houston, and Drew Martin Harris of Dallas. Gaye is also survived by her three grandchildren: Houston, Hank and Cash Harris of Houston.
