Doris Sturch Rodgers passed away on Sunday September 24, 2017 at the age of 93. Doris was born to George Dewey Sturch and Bessie Edwina Sturch in Clarksville, Texas on August 6, 1924. Her family moved from Clarksville to the Dallas area where she graduated from Sunset High School in the early 1940s. In 1946, Doris married Maurice Lyle Rodgers. They were members of Beckley Wynnewood Baptist Church. In 1951, the young couple moved to California where they lived until 1964. While there, Doris and Maurice were very active in the area’s little league program, members of Granada Hills Baptist Church, and she was mayor of the Granada Hills Town Hall. Upon returning to the Dallas area to care for aging parents, Doris began a new career as an intake secretary at Family Guidance Center. She retired from the agency after a long and fulfilling career. After retirement, Doris and Maurice were able to focus on their two passions – taking care of grandkids and traveling. A highlight in their lives was a trip to England to visit Doris’ brother George. She loved working Dallas Morning News Crossword puzzles. In April of 2015, she moved to the Sandy Lake Rehabilitation and Care center. Here she developed a new love, watching the birds gather and play around the bird feeders outside her window. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years, Maurice Lyle Rodgers, her brother, James Sturch and her sister Maurine Gaylor. She is survived by her brother George, his wife Sandy, of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her three children: Gary Maurice Rodgers, and wife Judy, of Lockhart, Texas; Sue Hays, and husband Jerry, of Farmers Branch, Texas; and Glenn Alan Rodgers, and wife Carol, of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Brian Scott Hays, and wife Heather of Carrollton, Texas; Jared Micah Hays, and wife Sarah, of Frisco, Texas; Christi Lynn Martin, and husband Jason, of Austin, Texas; Joshua David Rodgers of Lockhart, Texas; Stacy Lynn Rodgers of Rockwall, Texas; and Jeffrey Glenn Rodgers, and wife Mary of Copperas Cove, Texas. She is also survived by 8 great grandsons: Brennan Hays, Hanson Hays, Blake Rodgers, Henry Hays, Brody Salazar, Brayden Salazar, Oliver Hays, and Greyson Martin.
